70-year-old resident of Sughd gets jail terms of 18 years for killing

KHUJAND, August 29, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A 70-year-old resident of Shahriston district in Sughd province, Olim Qurbonov, has got a jail term of 18 years for killing.

The Sughd regional court sentenced Olim Qurbonov to 18 years in prison on August 27.  The sentence followed his conviction on charge of killing.  The court ruled that Qurbonov will serve his term a high-security penal colony.

The deputy head of the Sughd regional court, Shodikhon Nazarov, who presided over the trial, says Olim Qurbonov stabbed the Shahriston forestry director Obloyor Mirzoyev to death on June 25, 2011 following quarrel.  “Olim Qurbonov had hostility to Obloyor Mirzoyev, who sacked his son Ghayrat Qurbonov,” Nazarov said.
