A fire that broke out in one of private residential sectors in Dushanbe has reportedly destroyed roofs of five residential buildings.

“The fire broke out in the private residential sector on the Darvozi Street, not far from Dushanbe’s meat processing plant, in the afternoon of June 11,” Umarjon Emomali, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.  “The cause of the fire is under way.”

At first, the fire reportedly broke out in one of residential buildings but fanned by a powerful wind, the fire soon spread to four other residential buildings.

“An area of 120 square meters was enveloped in the fire.  The fire mainly destroyed  roofs of the buildings.  No human casualties were reported,” the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

According to him, five fire-engines were involved in extinguishing the fire in the private residential sector.

It is already the third fire reported in the Tajik capital this month.  The previous two fires occurred at Dushanbe’s Sultoni Kabir market (June 2) and Turkish Café “Merve” (June 6), which is placed on the first floor of the four-story apartment building on the Roudaki Avenue.  The Interior Ministry has attributed both fires to an electrical malfunction. No serious damage was caused to the café, while the June 2 fire reportedly caused 3.5 million somoni (TJS) worth of damage to Dushanbe’s Sultoni Kabir market.
